Blog: Gender-intentional Digital Health: Preliminary Reflections from a Gender Study in Ethiopia

Shared by health.enabled. Access the blog here.

Preliminary findings from a gender study funded by Gavi and led by health.enabled, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Gender Equity Unit, and the Center for Digital Health and Implementation Science at the University of Gondar show a disconnect between gender reflected in national-level health and technology priorities and among health workers and caregivers using digital health platforms for immunization.

Despite progress in digital health and immunization initiatives, Ethiopian women have less access to technology and are not engaged in the development of immunization and/or digital health policies. Gender-responsive digital health has been shown to improve immunization outcomes in other studies and countries.

This new blog offers insights into these findings and steps toward gender inclusiveness in Ethiopia’s digital health programs.
